About Muskellunge (Muskie)
The muskellunge - "the fish of 10,000 casts" - is Minnesota's ultimate trophy fish. These apex predators grow to massive sizes and test even expert anglers with their intelligence and explosive strikes. While catching a muskie requires patience and dedication, landing one is an achievement every serious angler dreams of.
🏞️Habitat
Muskies prefer large, clear lakes with abundant forage. They relate to deep weed edges, rocky structures, and open-water humps. In summer, they often patrol weed edges in 8-20 feet of water. Fall muskies follow cisco and whitefish schools into deeper water. Prime muskie lakes include Leech, Vermilion, Mille Lacs, and Cass Lake.
